hello friends!

well i've been a busy girl lately! my mr. and i got married on may 21st, 2011. we had a lovely, small wedding with our closest family and friends. it was a wonderful, sunny day. we are also expecting an adorable baby boy in october! i'm so excited to be a new wife and mommy!

on the crafty side of things, i just wanted to pop in quickly and share that i am changing my blog home to verymerrystudio.blogspot.com i am in the process of changing over my etsy shop as well because i'd like to have cohesion in my etsy shop name/blog. i have been working on a new design for my logo and blog graphics. i think they're pretty cute of course! :)

Tag with a Frame

for today's papertrey ink challenge, nichole asked us to create a tag using a frame. i used pti's fillable frames #1, which is the only of that set that i've purchased so far, although they are all great and i'd love to get them all! heather is coming out with a round circle set now too, the first of which will be available this month! it's really cute! the best part is that the tag set is only $5, and the coordinating die cut is $8, so you can have a little set for only $12 which is a steal. :)

not a whole lot to say with this little tag, except that it took me forever to create! haha, why are the smaller projects the harder to do? or is it just me? it could be because the first tag i die cut, stamped and embossed with white powder, then stamped 2 different sentiments on it, and decided i didnt like it. so i had to start all over. haha. oh well.

today's pti challenge is to incorporate buttons into your project...i feel certain that we will be seeing a lot of their "everyday button bits" stamps coming alive again in everyone's posts today. it's such a lovely stamp set, and one of the very first that i purchased from papertrey ink.

quite some time ago, i had created a card, also with the same bicycle image, but i was not happy with the layout i came up with, and just had the card tucked away into a box...so i peeled everything off, and recycled the stamped woodgrain kraft card, the peach buttons and the twine...everything else was newly stamed and cut and added...i like it much better this time around! sometimes that works out for the best! something that was ehhh...just ok, turned into something that i'm very happy with :)

pti color challenge

papertrey ink has another challenge today, celebrating their 4th anniversary. all you have to do is create a card using one of the featured color combinations and post to your blog, then register your link. there is another fabulous prize up for grabs of course! and you can enter up to 10 times today, ifyou have the time to create a card for each color combo...wish i didn't have a job so i could do just that...but i do, so only could squeeze in one card
.

i used this combo: hibiscus burst, sweet blush, ripe avacado and spring moss - this was the color set that melissa phillips presented. all of the combos are fantastic though. don't worry, if you don't have pti paper, you can use whatever you have that fits the colors closest, which is what i always do. i would love to own all of their fabulous paper, but alas, i'm on a tight budget most of the time! so just make do with what you have! all of the stamps on this card are papertrey ink.

my favorite stamp company, papertrey ink, is celebrating their 4th anniversary starting today...hop on over to nichole's blog to check out an awesome blog post. each of the dt members is sharing her favorite pti project from 2010. they are all such great projects, great ladies, great supplies to work with! love each and every one of them! great inspiration.

there is a prize package up for grabs that is absolutely fantastic...i am seriously keeping my fingers crossed for this one...i would just keel over if i win! eeeekk! :)

this is my favorite card from 2010 featuring pti stamps. the woodgrain was a release from dawn mcvey and the sentiment i believe was from a set nichole designed...it featured a vw bug.

i know it seems like i did just that! so sorry! my mr. decided to start his own business earlier this year...he's a mechanic. i am proud of him, but it's been hard starting up. he's got a decent customer base, but it does not always pay the bills. it's sporadic. it's stressful. so. i decided to get a 2nd job to help us get by. i seriously need to get my credit cards paid off & my car...once that is done, it will be a little easier. i have been making and selling crafts at two new shops in louisville and new albany...so when i've had the time, i make stuff to them, but working 7 days a week doesn't leave much time for my personal scrapbooking and crafting. but my hope is to work this in after the new year...i haven't even started making my handmade christmas cards yet this year...sad to say but they might be getting wal-marties. lol.

please don't give up on me. i'll be back after the new year, if not sooner!

michael loves to fish. last summer we bought a bass boat and he spends lots of time out on the lake. i go with him too, but his dream is to be a pro bass master. :0) i hope someday this happens!

this page has some great felt thickers from american crafts and cute little yellow alphabets by basicgrey. that little squirrel stamp in the corner is from a hero arts set and most of the paper is either making memories and my mind's eye. love all of their papers. i've noticed a fad with drawing pen lines so i incorporated that too. hope you enjoy!

meet pepper

meet pepper, one of my sweet little kittens! the mr and i love this one the best...because she matches our dog...black & white. she is sooo adorable, although the other 2 are as well. i will share pics of whitey and bunny when i get a good pic. :) they are outside cats, although i think pepper deserves to roam the house.

i'll be back in the morning to share a scrapbook page i just finished up this evening.

sweet 16

hello! no card to share today but i do have a scrapbook page that i made a while back.

these pictures were all taken on my sister, billie's, sweet 16! she is so beautiful. my family got together for cake and ice cream and i got to be there because i was home visiting for a few days! so i was super excited about that. my mom and i made the cake...and the experience was hilarious because the party was *kinda last minute. as in, we ran to the grocery to buy the supplies, ran home and mixed up the ingredients, and baked them. then we drove to the little town where my brother lives because he wanted us to go to this pizza place he loves by his house. so we went and did that while the cakes were cooling. then we rushed back home because everyone was suppose to be arriving within a half hour. haha! so it was a crazy few hours, but so much fun.

happy friday, ya'll!

i'm busy painting the trim on the bathroom window but while it's drying, i wanted to share this card i made for embellishmagazine.com's color challenge with butterflies.

now i love my martha stewart butterfly punch, but this time i chose to use a much larger butterfly for my focal point. this is a butterfly that i drew in adobe illustrator some time ago when i wanted a big butterfly but did not have a die-cut for one...so i created my own little template. i do that a lot...trying to save money and since i am a graphic designer... :0)

so anyhow,this was an easy card...just traced the butterflies and cut them out, cutting inside the lines on the polka-dotted paper so it would be slightly smaller. i found some great big sparkly glitter at wal-mart a couple weeks ago, so i added that onto the wings for a little glitz! the scalloped edge behind the kraft card is actually fiscars treading water punch (i think it's called that) but i just hid the portion with the little dots. love how it turned out!

hope you all have a fantasic weekend. i will be doing more painting and organizing the loft and getting things ready for a yard sale in a couple of weeks hopefully! ooooh and playing with my new baby kitties!

a thank you card

hello!

kristina werner has posted a new color inspiration ...it's been awhile since she's had one, so i know lots of us papercrafters are excited! and we got to vote on the color scheme. it was very clever how she set it up. so that's why it's called the "readers choice" color combo.

i do not have any supplies that are light gray...but this ink that i used to stamp the sentiment dries as a nice gray color, so that works for me! i redid the middle of the card a couple of times because i stitched the ribbon loop to the side and the first time it was totally askew and the 2nd time i just didnt like it because it made my sentiment look off-center. haha! so the third time was a charm with no sewing! do you ever have problems like that...or is it just me?

the pink paper in the background was stamped with papertrey ink's background basics: woodgrain stamp set and then i sanded down the entire thing with sandpaper and inked the edges with their tea touch ink in chamomile.

happy monday.

last night i put together a cute card for the embellish magazine.com color challenge with dimension. there's not a lot to say, it was a pretty quick and easy card. it is the second idea though, as the first one wasn't doing it for me as i was piecing it together. on this card, the whole green middle section is raised from the rest of the card with 3d foam & my stiching is getting better! and straighter! wooot woooot! hah!

the christmas donkey

so if you know me, you know i love donkeys. everytime the mr and i drive past a farm with a donkey, i about die. i want one so badly. but michael says that they need to live in pairs and need to have that companionship in order to be happy. that's ok with me though...2 donkeys are better than one! i would just love to have one white with brown polka dots and one gray one.

so...imagine my delight when my little sister was cast as the donkey in the church christmas play a few years back. (geesh! doesn't time fly!) anyhow, she was the cuuuuuutest thing. i thought they would just have a paper/plastic donkey face on a stick that she would hold in front of her face, but oh no no. they went all out and she had the sweetest costume ever! this is one of my all-time favorite pictures of her.

don't you just love that crepe paper that i ran through the sewing machine. i'm getting better at straight lines...yeah! i think it only cost like a dollar or so at dollar general...i will have to get more colors because i really like the look it created!

also, the banner stamp is from Dear Lizzy. it's the first time i've used it and i just adore it! i created this layout based on the "sunday sketch" from studio calico. i just love their monthly kits...or should i say i love to look at their monthly kits.i do not actually subscribe to their montly kits...i need to get a couple credit cards paid off before i indulge in another expense. hehe....maybe next year studio calico!

morning!

sorry for my absense lately. i've been busy the past couple of weeks going through container after container of junk! i have basically every notebook from every grade of school from every subject plus a folder full of papers from each class too. it's pretty ridiculous why i saved all of that stuff. guess i thought i would make a super ginormous scrapbook with that stuff? yeah......right. so i've been filling trash bags and only saving out a couple of things here and there. and i have quite the collection of yard sale items going on too. lots and lots of clothes! eeeek! except the last time i had a yard sale a total of about 6 people came and mostly they were wondering if i had any tools to sell (because mr michael has a huge garage and those men wanted to get ahold of some good stuff and weren't interested in my gap and banana republic collection). hehe! i'll have to advertise in the newspaper this time.

anyhow. here are a couple of cards i've made recently, featuring stamps from papertreyink. one was for my friend sara's birthday and the other for my boss.

Photo Booth Fun

I was going through some of my picture boxes (you know, when i actually had film developed) and i came across this half strip of photo booth pics. at the time, michael and i had cut them in half and he took 2 and i took 2. unfortunately, he lost his...he somehow had it stuck up in his car, and it slid down behind the headliner and since he no longer owns that vw...

anyhow! this was on a trip to indiana beach for my mom's company party when we were in high school. so cute! i was grouchy later on that day i remember, so i'm glad we got these silly photos in early!

the offwhite felt heart is my own handmade embellie and the corrugated butterfly was punched from a starbucks coffee cozy. mmmhhh starbucks. havent had that in forever!

My Brother

hello all...

you must check out the layouts that were posted for the 1st butterfly crafts design team challenge. everyone's looked great! it was exciting to see what everyone came up with. mine is ok, but i was unhappy with the placement of the "friends" letters at the top. i didnt like that they overlapped the label...but i'll give it to those thickers...they stick good! haha! i didnt even press them down whatsoever and when i wanted to move them they were actually ripping the paper underneath...so, so much for that idea. does that every happen to any of you? you plan something out and then want to change it but it's too late so you just have to live with it?

anyhow. on sunday i created this layout. this picture was taken a few years back...it's one of my favorites of my brother, spenser, and i. i was home for college and we decided to go to the truck stop really late to have coffee and talk. he is so cool. but alas, our beloved truck stop in my hometown is no more...that is sooo sad. it was a staple of our high-school lives. (p.s. sorry for the glare in the full layout shot...i was having a hard time this morning with the lighting.)

and speaking of my brother, he somehow got involved with ultimate fighting and had his first fight this past saturday. i was scared for him, being as though he is my one and only baby brother. but thankfully, he made it out alive.

so my little sister, kaitlyn, got this sweet carebear costume from halloween when she was 4...and then proceeded to wear it around the house as often as she could get away with it...she would sneak off and reappear wearing it, she would sleep in it, etc. i have a little series of photos with her wearing the costume...in january...haha...they are all adorable. this is one layout i did showcasing her carebear stare!

i have some exciting news! yesterday i found out that i have been chosen to be on the butterfly crafts spring design team! i'm really excited to see the kind of challenges we will be given, and super happy to work with such a talented group. there are 20 dt members all together, from all over the world, which is pretty neat! you can read more about butterfly crafts and karen here.

today's challenge with nichole of papertrey ink is to use one of the color combos that each designer has picked out. i decided to go with heather's color choice, but after i finished my card and went back to the website, it seems like my colors might be a little brighter than what they are suppose to be. but that is ok. it's a cute card anyhow. the little birdie and also the bee are both stamps from The Paper Company Studio and the sentiment is Papertrey Ink. i am really lovin' how it turned out! and isn't this bee just the sweetest thing you've ever seen?!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I am torn with which team to root for...when I worked at Fox59 In Indianpolis, I designed graphics for the Colts' Bill Polian Show (which was a weekly show about the Colts, hosted by the owner of the team, Bill Polian). And because I went to Purdue University, Drew Brees is pretty cool too. Ha! So good luck to both the Colts and the Saints!

Caardvarks is doing a currently hosting a challenge that might get you published in CARDS magazine! I would really love to start getting some of my cards published...what fun! You are challenged to create your very best "wedding" card, with the winner being published in their July 2010 issue.

When the scrapbook store went out of business in my hometown, I snatched up a set of wedding themed clear stamps from Making Memories. I think it was only $4 or something like that. So this is the first time I've used them, as I haven't had any wedding to attend lately. The Mr. & Mrs. stamp actually has a double-lined border going around it, but because I waned to stamp on this gold ribbon tag, I just inked up the stamp and wiped off the ink on the border, so that it would fit nicely where I wanted it to. Going through my paper, I also found this great damask design that went perfectly with the damask stamp! How lucky! I really love this color combo; I think the card looks very elegant.

I also want to say thank you to the ladies who gave me tips on how to create a link. I think I've got it working properly now! It was sweet of you to help me out!

hello!

so. today's challenge with nichole (http://www.nicholeheady.typepad.com/) of papertrey ink is challenging us to try the "emboss resist" technique. well, i had an embossing ink pad, and a thing of embossing powder that i picked up on sale one time at hobby lobby. so this morning i stamped up my image and tried to heat it up with my blowdryer. ha. i tried, but did not succeed. i guess it does not get hot enough but so much for being thrifty and innovative. embarred to say, but i even plugged up the iron thinking that might blow some steam off of it. you can figure out how that went.

but my mr. came to the rescue. he gave me some "hobby lobby money" (as he calls it) last week or the week before and little 'ole me hadn't spent it yet. so after work tonight i bought a heat embossing gun. it's purple and so cute. and it works!

so here is my first attempt with my heat gun. i used a paper towel to smudge the pink ink around the hearts. and my very best attempt to sew in a straight line. someday i will learn.

p.s.s. i saw someone do a scrapbook page titled "12 months of me" which i thought was a cute idea...so i'm going to try it too. this is my february photo...i decided that i look like a parakeet when i wear my hair like this. hehe. but whatever. it's easy and i'm not that hair saavy. but i do like having short hair now!

Papertrey Fun!

hey ya'll...

it's way past my bedtime, so i'll make this one short! papertrey ink is celebrating their third anniversary this month, so nichole (nicoleheady.typepad.com) has scheduled lots of fun activities that come with some awesome prize packs that i'm trying to get ahold of...i need some random drawing luck on my side these next couple of weeks! good luck to everyone else who is playing along too! it's so much fun!

i chose to use the image that becky oehlers has provided...this cute little house on the hill is so sweet. i just colored in the images with my old high school prismacolor colored pencils - i wish i had copic markers, but i don't...so i gotta make do with what i have in my stash! i added some glitter to the 2nd balloon layer that is raised off the card with foam adhesive, and used glossy accents on the window, clouds and sun.

i'm off to slumberland. g'night!

kate's book list

kate's book list is complete! last week i purchased a crop-a-dile so i could bind this cute little book together. it's a gift for my youngest sister, kaitlyn. she is just like me and loves to read her little heart out. i actually just read "dear john" this weekend (by nicholas sparks) and i cried. it is good...not what i expected in the ending. but good. i think it will make a good movie...except for the ending. hehe. but nonetheless...a good book.

so anyhow! i made this little book's covers out of some recycled cardboard i had & covered with patterened paper. i created the inside pages in adobe illustrator, printed and cut them out. then i just decorated with stickers and thickers, some pearl embellies and a butterfly punched out of a strip of paper. pretty simple, but i think it's really cute! i want to make one for myself.

Pink Wuzzie

happy friday! this week has been dragging by for me...so tgif!

yesterday i made this cute little wuzzie (as i call them). in honor of valentines, she's pink! i patterned my wuzzies off of a drawing i did for a painting, that never got painted. so i turned them into little cute felties!

i am also finishing up a cute little mini book for my little sister, kaitlyn. both she and i share a love of reading, so over christmas we talked about keeping lists of all the books we've been reading. she started on harry potter, at age 9! i just read those about 3 years ago and loved them, so i can imagine how fun they must be for a younger person. but anyhow! i made a little journal for her to keep track and when it's all the way done, i'll share it with you.

it's been a busy day so far. i was lazy yesterday so i've got a lot on my agenda today. i have already painted the last coat on the middle room, cooked breakfast, done dishes, cleaned the fridge, done 2 loads of laundry and taken out the compost.

well it's been quite some time, huh!? hope everyone had a very special holiday season and is getting back into the swing of things. i know i am.

i stayed up way too late last night to make a card for dawn's challenge this week. it's been on my to-do list for several days but time is getting away from me. other things keep popping up lately and i haven't had time to do a whole lot of scrapping.

can i just say how much i love dawn's challenges? she seems like the sweetest gal. her colors this week are chocolate, light yellow, cream and light teal. hope you like my card! (ps we had to buy a new computer over the holidays - ug i know right...both my desktop and michael's laptop went kaput at the same time - so! this is the first time i've used this version of Paint so i hope my picture cropping isnt' too crazy! haha!)

hiya!

this week i remembered to check the deadline for dawn's raspberry suite color challenge. last week i missed it by a couple of days! haha...so goes life. the challenge colors this time are soooo cute and cozy and i just loved working on this one. i decided to make a cute little tag this time, as i am getting quite the collection of cards.

but if you've got time, check out the card drives that jennifer mcquire (jennifermcquire has been promoting...it makes you feel so good to create something cute to send to a special little child. i sent some around halloween time, one for a girl named kate & one for a little boy named eric. she's added a lot more kids this time around so go make some cards!!!

do you have your christmas shopping completed yet? i sure do not! i have barely started...i've just been busy with stuff around the house. and both the laptop and desktop computers died this weekend...so we had to go buy a new one over the weekend. talk about an unexpected expense...especially around the holidays!

cute new owl

morning!

my birthday was a couple of weeks ago and i told my mom all that i wanted was this cute little owl die-cut. of course, she sent that one thing along with a package of other fun scrapbooking stuff, which i love love love! i made a couple of cards to share using my cute new owl. the only hard thing is gluing down the eyes and beak because the pieces are soooo tiny.

it's just starting to get cold where i live and i'm already ready for springtime! once christmas is over, just bring back that warm summer sun, mother nature. i can skip all of the cold stuff!

well hello there...hope everyone had a lovely thanksgiving. mine was good! the mr. and i stayed home this year and i cooked thanksgiving dinner for us, plus his 2nd cousin and his son ended up joining us. everything went well...& the turkey was delicious. only mishap was the dinner rolls got a little too done but they were still edible, so no complaints. i only started to panic at the very end when everything was getting done at the same time...i was trying to stir the gravy and mash the potatoes at one time, while the corn casserole timer was buzzing and i needed to put in the buns in the oven all at once!

anyhow, i made this card for dawn's raspberry suite color challenge no. 19. i just clicked over to her blog only to find out that this challenge ended 2 days ago. nothing wrong with being a little late, right? but alas, i thought i would share this card anyhow.

a new challenge

hello all...it's sure been awhile...i've been busy at home & have hardly had time for scrapping! plus i started reading twilight (i succumbed finally! eeek it's so good!) my mr. is finishing up the living room remodel and then i decided to start painting the sunroom. you can see what it is looking like in the background of my pic. it was a knotty wood room, and i decided it needed to be brightened up! but it's sure been a lot of work...and it's not even done yet!

anyhow! i've been noticing challenges some of you have been doing for embellish magazine and decided to join in this week...especially because owls are my favorite thing in the whole world. if i could, i'd decorate my whole house in owls...but that might not go over well with the mr. so i will just have to settle with a couple here and there + having fun with them on my cards and scrapbooking! so this is what i came up with for embellish magazine.com's color challenge with owls!

hi ya'll...happy fall!

every day on the way to work i get to drive through land owned by bernheim forest, which is a nationally recognized arboretum and research forest. the trees are blazing and beautiful...this is my favorite time of year. i've already downed one gallon of apple cider so far... hehe!

and now onto the card! these colors are just fabulous together...and while sifting through my patterned papers i found this giraffe print of chocolate and cream! perfect! doesn't this card look so fashionable?!

i made this cute little owl plaque last weekend. i got out my little purple sewing machine and sewed down the middle of that ribbon. ha! i was not sure how it would turn out, but i think it works. i just love love love it! i'm liking pink a lot lately...which is a big change for me! but it's so girlie and cute! i put this little decoration up on my etsy site with free shipping!

happy friday ya'll!

it's been awhile since i've posted because i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed last friday...so i was trying to recover from that, which honestly was not as bad as i had expected! and since i've been up and at 'em, i've been trying to get caught up on housework...i'm sure you all know how that goes! and also i am happy to say that our living room remodel is coming closer to being complete...as the trim and casing is now all up! i just finished spackling the nail holes for the 2nd time this morning. paint will be coming soon! yippee!

i just wanted to share a card i made for something very special. jennifer mcquire (jennifermcquireink.typepad.com) has been collecting cards for a sweet little girl named kate who is battling brain cancer. i've had this on my list to do for quite some time and really needed to squeeze it in this week because the deadline is almost up. . i made a colorful and girlie little card to send to her. i hope it makes her smile!

isn't this a sweet little owl stamp? it is from the same set as the squirrel i used on the last challenge's card. i sewed the embroidery floss so it looked like a little ribbon tied around his neck with a bow. anyhow, here are the colors for this challenge. gotta love it when "kraft" is thrown in there...that is what i usually use as my card base!

my sweet pippi

for those of you who have read about my sweet little kitten, pippi, that i found and was bottle-feeding, i am sad to say that she passed away on Monday morning. I had just taken her to the vet at 8am because she was having a problem going to the bathroom but started to get diarrhea with a little bit of blood. the vet gave her some antibiotics and said to get a heating pad. so i ran across the street to the store, got the heating pad and everything was fine...she was loving that heating pad, she snuggled up with her little koala stuffed animal & we headed to work for the day. around 10:30am, i got her up to feed her again. i was holding her in my hands and snuggling her little nose and it happened. it was a truly terrible feeling and just writing this is bringing tears to my eyes. i just wanted to say it so no one wondered why i stopped writing about her. she was well cared for in the 9 days that i had her and she got lots of love and affection. shame on that man who just tossed her out by the road to die. i did what i could for that sweet kitten, but sometimes nature takes its course.

whew. i've got a lot to do. yesterday i took rambo to the s.n.i.p. clinic...poor thing got neutered...but he's perfectly fine and acting like his cute little self. we just do not need any more cats running around our land. i also gave all 3 of the older kittens flea baths...that was the first time they've had baths and it was histerical. rambo was the most calm. he just sat in any position you held him in. mojo and sassy were more squirmy and fought me a little bit. no scratches though! i couldn't believe it! far as the little baby kitten, she is having a hard time going number 2...i called the vet and they told me to basically give her an enema...hhmm. that's just what i wanted to do this weekend. so far it is not working so i think i will have to take her in. and i thought of a name...i call her pipsqueek, so she'll be called pippi! isn't that too cute?

since trueblood is over for the season, sunday's don't feel the same...i don't have anything on tv to look forward to watching! boo!

a taste of all hallow's eve

when i was home for labor day, my little sister kaitlyn and i had a day to ourselves while mom was at work, spenser was at work and billie was off doing something that teenage girls do. so kate and i went to maggie mo's to get a big ice cream - she picked out vanilla bean and cake batter and got some kind of candy bar mixed in it (i'm getting forgetful in my old age). but let me tell you...the couple of bites i was able to coeherce out of her were ohhh so yummy!

next door to maggie mo's is jo-ann fabrics. i happened to bring a 40% off coupon with me so we quickly ran in to check out their scrapbook section. score! i got the cuuuutest halloween stamp set by tpc studio. this card features the ghost from that set and a couple of sentiments that i paired together! hope you enjoy!

Tiny Little Baby Kitten

today i had a lot of errands to run and things to do. i was on a mission. the first stop, get gasoline!

so as i was filling up i kept hearing a very loooud kitten meow-ing. it was kind of ridiculously loud. then i saw a woman walk back to a row of cars at the car dealership across the road from the gas station. she was looking underneath car no.1 then car no.2 then came to a truck, which she looked in the bed of. then she walked away and came back with one of the salesman, who reached into the truck and took out the little baby kitten.

so. it was a hot day and that poor little baby kitten sounded so scared, hungry and confused that it was breaking my heart. i didnt want it to wonder into the street since the man had taken him out of the truckbed.

long story short the tiny little baby kitten turned out to be a lot smaller than i thought once i actually walked over to get it. it's eyes are closed and the embilical cord was still attached. my hope was that tabby, our mother cat who is still nursing her own kittens (even though they are a little old to be nursing still in my opinion) but tabby wasn't really feeling that. so i went to the store, bought a tiny bottle and kitten formula but the poor thing wont hold still long enough to be fed, and i'm kinda freaking out! he is so squirmy and terrified all around. what a long day...and i'm suppose to do this every 3 hours...oh boy.

dawn totally rocked an awesome color scheme this week for her raspberry suite color challenge no. 16. (dawnmcvey.typepad.com) i actually made a card about a week or so ago with almost the same colors. it is just perfect for autumn. it's been cool here the past few days and i absolutely love love love it. don't get me wrong, michael and i have been enjoying the nice warm sunshine and taking the boat out to the lake, but there is just something about fall that makes me smile. maybe it's the pumpkins, changing leaves and hot apple cider. mmhhhmmm. can't wait for some of that!

friday night michael went fishing and i went to the mall! fun fun fun! i hadn't been to the mall in so long. i got a sweet little stamp set from archivers with lots of cute woodland animals. the little bird stamp i used on this card for dawn's raspberry suite color challenge is from that new set. i just love it! at the very bottom on the card i punched a strip of paper with my ek success border punch...i really like how subtle it is and how it just blends in with the background because it's the same color.

This one is from spcolorcombos.blogspot.com I had this little pumpkin that my mom cut out for me last year or so...and when i saw the colors i had to dig for it...but surprisingly i found it and i think it was perfect for this color combo!

you can't tell from the photos, but the yellowish orange zig-zag ribbon is velour and sooo soft. i just love it! what do you think?

i made this sweet little thank you card last night to play along with dawn's challenge this week. i gathered my supplies from my little craft shop upstairs last night and had to bring them downstairs to glue everything together. it is soooo hot up there! i do not understand why none of the air-conditioning reaches up there? am i missing something? the people we bought this house from said the loft was the "bedroom" for all of their kids as they were growing up...those poor kids! guess they never had to exercise...as you break a sweat just being up there for 4seconds!

just a quick little post this morning...here is my card for dawn mcvey's raspberry suite color challenge #13. this is the 2nd card i've made that is a 5.5 x 5.5 inch square...it's a little larger than what i normally work with but i think it turned out cute! its nice because you have a little more room to work with larger embellishments, like this butterfly! i created the butterfly outline in adobe illustrator, printed it out and made a chipboard pattern so now i can make butterflies all day long if i want! hope you weekend is fabulous!

miss peacock

the other day, someone found this little kitten following a homeless man down the street in front of my work. the man said he could not take care of it, so it was was brought inside so we could try to find a home for her. the little kitten took a liking to me...i liked her too, but since we already have a momma cat with 3 kittens at home right now i knew i could not bring another one home...but i sure was tempted. this sweet little kitten took naps on my lap all day while i was working. talk about theraputic!

later on in the evening she decided to go tromping around on my desk and sat underneath my computer monitor for a bit. but then she would attack my hand playfully while i used my wacom pen tool. it was too funny. i figure she's probably about 6 weeks old as she is around the same size as my kittens at home.

the great news is that someone wanted this little one and named her miss peacock (because we work at nbc...get it!?) and she has a very loving home now! how great is that?!

Scrapbooking Layouts

i wanted to share a couple of cute scrapbooking layouts i worked on. the photos in them are both old (obviously the one from me cheerleading in high school is old!) and the one from christmas is from 2007...haha they always say in the magazines not to worry if you get behind...just work on what feels good and fun to you!

Anyhow. i thought they both turned out cute! i usually like to use 8x8 books. when i first started scrapbooking i always made 12x12s but now i dont care for them as much. mini books (and 8x8) are my favorite...i'm in the process of finishing one of those up now that i will share when it's done!

that's me coming down from a basket toss in the cheerleading layout. isn't it kinda neat how i used the blurry picture? i just made a fun title to go along with it!

well, i made a card this week for kristina's color inspiration. at first when i saw the colors posted i was not going to participate. sometimes it's hard for me to use soo many colors when i dont have a patterned paper that incorporates a couple of them in it...but nonetheless, i ended up making one tonight. i think it turned out pretty cute. it's a mini:card, measuring 3.5x4.5 inches. my mom bought a million stamps from the used item sale that our local scrapbook store has every few months in my hometown. one weekend when i was visiting her i stamped a bunch of images so i would have them when i got back to kentucky. i came across this cute little ladybug today when i was looking through some of my scrap:crap. hehe! i think its too cute!

have you ever heard of a scrapbooking product called "glossy accents?" i just discovered it at the store a while back, and this is the first time i've tried it out. can you see it on the purple parts of the bird's wings? wherever you apply it, it makes a glossy surface overtop of your design. it's really pretty nifty...just dont shake the bottle or else it will get tiny airbubbles in it!

since i work for nbc, we get free advanced movie screening passes to see lots of movies before they actually are available to the public. tonight i invited my friend taylor to go see "the proposal" but when we got there we found out it was sold out. so i was bummed...we waited in line to see if we could get into another movie and "the hangover" was the next closest time so we signed up to see that one.

i laughed so hard i have a headache. and my cheeks hurt. and everytime i think about it i start to laugh again.

with that said, i think you can figure that i liked it. go see it if you haven't already. i now know why it brought in so much money at the boxoffice. go now!

*in crafty news, i've been working on a cute little project for the past week but its not getting done. ..so i should probably get off to it.

phew...it's hard to keep up with a blog! i've been ridiculously busy lately!

we're still working on the living room. the walls & ceiling has drywall and the fireplace is up and ready to get tiled. michael has started to tape and mud. it's a dusty mess! i am ready for it to be done!

at work we've been getting ready for the Kentucky Derby which is next weekend, May 2nd. I have a cute dress picked out to wear but I need to run to the craft shop to get a feathery head piece together. i'm bypassing a hat because they are just too expensive! my boss and i also painted a horse for Gallopalooza. that was quite a task but it turned out great. click here to see a picture of "A Horse of a Different Feather." can you see the nbc peacock feathers?!

one more thing that is exciting for me...i have been asked to join a group called the "Female Art Collective" which is a group of female artists around the Louisville area. they really like my handmade cards and little owls! The two ladies in charge of the group are going to open their shop up at the end of May and we will all have our artwork for sale through that site. it's going to be fantastic! so i've been busy making cards for that shop instead of my own etsy shop. they are going to be doing a lot of advertising, so hopefully i will make some sales through the FAC!

CKU Convention

saturday i went to the 1st cku convention in louisville at the kentucky expo center. it was sooo much fun. i got there a little early so i could shop...i got some really cute stuff, but i did not spend very much money, so that is a big plus! i volunteered as a TA and i helped in a few classes. the first one was not so much fun as i had to sit and clean off stamps for nearly an hour. the next few classses were taught by a really nice lady named brandon from the company Piggy Tales. her sister, giboney was in and out too and she had the cutest little baby! i had a lot of fun helping them out, setting up scrap kits and listening to the class. i got a lot of ideas and i love love love their interactive scrapbooks. i can't wait to get started on mine!

Remodel!

This what Michael and I have been up to for the past 2 weeks...our living room remodel! The walls are gone, the ceiling is gone, a fireplace is being built and I have 2 awesome new windows. It is a big project and I've learned that I really do have a lot of patience. I can tell you that I don't care for insulation, I like using a circular hand drill (that does not seem like the right name for that tool but who knows) because it makes me feel strong, and always have a plan before you start! Thank goodness for a good friend of Michael's and our neighbor, Larry for all of their help! And did I mention I'm getting a fireplace! Woo hoo, I can't wait! Anyhow, we've been busy!

i made this sweet baby shower card last night for this week's color inspiration. it's the first time i've used my "baby dear" stamp...it always seemed sooo fancy, but i really like how it turned out. the little button i used is out of a big package of brown buttons but it was the only one imprinted with a tiny butterfly. and of course i knocked it off of my table...and right into my trashcan. i eventually found it, and turned around again and knocked it off the table but thankfully that time it did not go directly into the trash. geez.

i've been making some cute little guys made out of felt the past week...they have pins sewn to the back to you can stick them on a tote bag, diaper bag, etc. So far I've made an owl, snail and a little blue elephant. i have more ideas in mind of different animals &/or items to make, but i think i'll wait to see if anyone has interest in these first. they take some time to make even though they are simple. it's a lot of cutting and hand sewing. but they turn out really cute in the end. i dont have a hard pattern for these, just my visions so i just start cutting and sewing. it's a little break from making cards and scrapbooking but still creative.

i just discovered this blog and so this is my first card in the color inspiration challenges. i'm totally excited about it. last night around 12:30am i realized that I needed to get a card out in the mail like TODAY for my friend sara's birthday. so i decided to get two birds with one stone and use these colors to make her birthday card and then use it for this too! my card turned out cute, but definitely has some funky handmade flair! i mainly had a problem because i did not have any supplies close to the ruby red color...except for this chipboard quote bubble...so then i needed some kind of creature to link it it, so i drew and cut out this little deer with my exacto knife. by the time it was 2am i was getting really tired and i drew an ugly little flower at the bottom and i hated it so then i had to cover it up! uughhr! i found this green felt flower and combined it with a white paper flower and a blue button. quite the cute cover up if you ask me. hehe. xoxo andie...

new project ideas

In high school people always wanted to buy my artwork - they'd catch me at a ball game or come into Mundy's when I was waitressing to ask me about it. I never did sell anything though because I was always so attached. Plus I never knew how much to charge? I just felt weird about it. Looking back, I wish I would have given some of those things up because now they just sit in a closet (haha I think in the closet at my parents house, sorry mom, someday I'll get all the rest of my things) because they are not coordinating with my little country home.

Well, I've been wanting to start painting on canvas for my etsy shop. I always have tons of ideas and I have drawn out one in particular that is just begging to be brought to life. It's an Alice in Wonderland piece - with the white rabbit and a stopwatch. It will be a little whimsical and homemade looking. I am totally inspired by Elsie Flannigan of Red Velvet Art. She is my artistic hero. Someday I'd love to meet her...I actually emailed her last week and she wrote back to me that same day, which was awesome. It was weird for me to do that but I really just wanted to tell her how cool I thought she was. I'd love to do what she does. Her blog is fantastic...I'm addicted! www.abeautifulmess.typepad.com

michael called me earlier today to tell me i got 2 packages in the mail. i completely forgot until i got home tonight. YES! my cute cute stamp set that i purchased off ebay has arrived! i can't wait to go use them...for some reason i was thinking they were all used, but only 2/8 had even been assembled. that just makes my day!

i had the idea for this sweet little cupcake gift card holder on saturday morning while i was waiting for the alarm clock to go off. i needed some supplies so i spent a couple of hours milling around the hobby shop. i love to just walk up and down the aisles and look at everything! if you ask me, i think it turned out rather cute! you can just slide the gift card into the pocket in the back. it's so sweet!

i just made this cute cute card a little while ago and just put it up on etsy. i drew and cut the deer out with an exacto knife so it was a time-consuming, but well worth it. it's cuteness is undeniable. *sigh*

my cute little notepad

last night i stayed up late making this cute little notepad. i am always writing down names of books or authors that i see featured on the today show, on a borders email or something that a friend has suggested. usually i write stuff like this down on a little yellow sticky note and then i end up losing it before i make it to the library. but...if i had a cute little notepad like this to keep in my purse, i wouldn't have to worry about it! so that was my inspiration. i'm planning to do a little series of notepads like this, i'm so excited about it. my green paint was a little chunky though...eek! i'll have to get some more next time i'm at the store.

these are the things i want to get done this weekend: laundry, haul off the mother mary statue that was in my yard that i busted apart last weekend but then was too weak to even budge the wheelbarrow (i've been saving my strength all week because michael is really busy with a tile job and fixing a jaguar in the garage), go to the library, clean out our 30gal fishtank (all of our expensive fish died when we didnt have power for 9 freaking days! sob), do some general cleaning, and make fun crafts. i also started on a mini-scrapbook awhile back and it's just been siting up in my loft, so i want to get that rolling again! whew!

p.s. the last book i read was "marley & me." it was so good...i read it in like 2.5 days

soo...i have a blog! i started my etsy shop a little while back ( you should go look :0) i have some super cute and fun little creative things: andiesink.etsy.com ) and i thought it might be fun to start a blog as i go along. i plan to use this spot as my scrapbooking blog and a place where i can share my projects. i've been feeling very creative lately...so much so that everytime i show my boyfriend, michael, a new project he rolls his eyes at me. i realized i was slowly taking over the upstairs loft, and then i started bringing my scrapbooking stuff and crafts down to the tv room this winter because it got so cold upstairs that i couldn't stand it! and now i have my card table in the spare room and what a mess! i've been trying to keep it more under control...but i'm not very good at it. when my creativeness starts, stuff starts flying...and i found out it's not a good idea to put paper scraps in his ashtray...he doesn't like that either. hehe...i think i'm going to be good at this blogging thing...i like to ramble on about things. xoxo andie...
